a tribute to a friend
after several successes with geared kinectics with the machines, and ever seeking to challenge myself, i embarked (!) on my first automaton sculpture, and could think of no fitting subject than our spunky and energenic shiba inu.
working with large open gearing was an exercise in balance and form, letting the mechanism be the subject. however decreasing the size to a small internal space, and use the gearing to drive movement in a subject proved to be a dog of a different color. after many design iteration, it ended up as a fitting piece for our perfectly sized pup.
