following a natural infatuation for gears, and inspired by such artists as David C Roy and woodworkers like Ronald Walter and Matthias Wandel, i created a series of kinectic sculptures featuring wooden spur and lantern gears.

an idea of a machine made of divisive interlocking parts inspired thoughts of human society, and the somewhat programmed yet often clumsy movement of our lives together. what is the purpose of such machinery? is it not all for fun and beauty in the end?

the project challenged my woodworking skills, and forced me to plan out the pieces and concertrate on precision much more than i normally would. the end result is something that looks interesting and interiguing when still, yet comes alive with motion and sound when interacted with.
